The Dedicated Hosting environment provides an exclusive server, or servers, devoted solely to your Web site. You do not share a server with other customers, as with Shared Hosting.

Do also note that for Dedicated & Managed Servers solutions, you are allowed to resell your server space to your customers with your own branding.

When do you need a dedicated server?

While simple, text-based sites are better suited for a shared server, the more complex Web sites operate more efficiently on a dedicated server because they are more secure and provide better performance. Therefore, those sites that have secure information, a high number of visitors or complex applications (i.e. online shopping, data capture pages, and automation) are the perfect candidates for a dedicated server.

How do you get a dedicated server?

Once you've determined that you need a dedicated server for your site, the next step is to configure it. There are many decisions involved in configuring your server:

• What is your operating system preference?
  Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, etc.

• Which of our packages works best for you?
  Hardware, RAM, Bandwidth, etc.

• Which applications/software do you require?

• Which managed services do you wish to add?
  Load Balancing, Firewall, Tape Backup, etc.

What is the difference between managed servers and dedicated servers?

With a Managed Server, our Web Engineers are responsible for the server and all applications and ensure they are operational around the clock. We only work with tested applications and do not readily support customized applications. The customer has full control over the site content and is able to make changes by FTP at any time.

A Dedicated Server offers root and administrative access. This is important for Web sites built with custom applications that are not supported by SpaceSolutions.com. We still offer hardware maintenance support and 24x7 technical support, but all applications are loaded and supported by the customer.

What are Managed Services?

Managed Services are services that can be added to your server for enhanced security and performance. For instance, a firewall can be added to your server to protect sensitive information, and a load balancer may be added to manage incoming traffic and deliver faster load times. These services are optional, but recommended for increased security and performance.
